What is Adaptive Learning
Adaptive learning is a newly developed teaching procedure where the learners are exposed to technological tools to make the learning easy and fruitful. Brusilovsky (2003) holds that adaptive learning or adaptive teaching is a pedagogical method using computer technologies to conduct the whole learning and teaching process. The teacher or facilitator delivers customized resources and assign activities to individuals according to their specific needs. Students respond to questions, submit tasks and share learning experiences, and that is how computers adapt the supply of educational materials based on learners' requirements. This technology has been developed using the experience gathered from various fields of study including AI, computer science, education, psychometrics, neuroscience, psychology and so on. As traditional and non-adaptive approaches seemed to be unsuccessful in achieving tailored learning on a large-scale, adaptive learning came into being. Adaptive learning transforms the learner from passive receptor of information to active participant in the educational process. Although the primary application of adaptive learning systems is in education, it is also used in business training. (Brusilovsky 2003)
